Welcome to Wording.life!

This space is dedicated to writing and the possibilities of language.

How can words connect us to a constantly changing world? How can they make or refuse to make meaning? How can they move through translation and how can they move us?

I invite you to explore these and other questions with me — through reading, translating, thinking, and, most importantly, through writing. Browse my creative and critical resources or check out my creative writing workshops to expand your writing skills, enhance your emotional wellbeing, or discover nature poetry & ecopoetics. Writing is a multifaceted art that requires time and practice. I also offer writing advice, editing & proofreading services, and help with academic and creative manuscripts.

Words come in many forms and shapes. They can hurt us. They can heal us. They can help us make sense of our lives. They can begin to express the inexpressible. They can make us see things differently. They are the roots under our feet and the clouds towards we reach.

What are you reaching for?

A wide range of skills-based, imaginative, and personal development writing workshops for schools, universities, community groups, and companies.

Academic, commercial, and literary translation from German into English and vice versa. Editing services for translations, creative, and academic manuscripts.

Proofreading of translations, creative, and professional manuscripts. Talks, reviews, teaching resources, language tutoring and academic guidance

All services are available in English and German.

"It is by means of our poetics that we simultaneously discover and compose the times in which we live."

Writer, Translator, Academic

I'm a bilingual writer, translator, and academic with over 10 years experience in Creative Writing. I’ve studied and worked across England, Ireland, and Germany, and gained my PhD “Dr. Europaeus” in English Literature & Poetry: Text, Practice as Research from the universities of Cologne, Kent, and Dublin. My areas of expertise include ecopoetics, Creative Writing pedagogy, experimental poetry, and ecotranslation. I firmly believe in the transformative potential of language and love sharing my passion for words with others. I currently live in Derry, but my true home is the sea.

Publications

"Published? But poets are not published, Mrs. Caldwell. You do not put a song in a book. Being a jali is a gift you carry to the people. You walk among your people singing them alive, keeping their roots nourished, teaching them who they are. The word jali, do you know what it means in my language? Blood. Yes. That is what it means. Poets are the true blood of their people."

Olga Grushin, Forty Rooms (2016)
